About Us
Mission:
Joe’s HEART is a non-profit organization that empowers young African American men to overcome the many pitfalls and obstacles that undermine their capacity to thrive and fulfill their destinies.
We contribute financial support to academic, cultural, social, and community-based programs that provide mentoring, tutoring, mental health care, financial literacy and career development training, etc. We also subsidize programs that supply immediate assistance while extending community to the unhoused.
Purpose:
This organization was established as a tribute to the life and witness of Joe Antonio Johnson. Joe grew up in public housing projects in Birmingham, Alabama. By God’s grace and with the loving guidance of his mother, Joe upset the odds and would not become a cliché or a statistic.
Joe’s personal accomplishments and successes, represented for him, a real responsibility to reach out and reach back to help somebody else. Joe loved to connect people and established deep roots everywhere he went.
Joe loved to inspire others to realize their potential while eliminating barriers to their success in life. Joe was not just a motivational speaker though. Joe was deeply shaped by his faith and believed in using his head, his hand, and his heart to help others! As an organ donor, Joe continued to give, even in his passing. His example is our motivation.
